Congratulations to our two newest groups to the Medical Venturer (MedVents) program family.
One day we will have at least one MedVent group in each of the provinces and territories.
Saturday, January 7, 2012, saw over 30 MedVent youth and advisors from across Canada, Halifax to Edmonton, gather at York EMS Headquarters in Newmarket ON for the first ever MedVent Roundtable. The goal of the day was to meet other MedVents; discuss the MedVent program and how we can make it better.
The day started with a presentation from National on the Memorandum of Understanding needed to set up a MedVent program as well as the new Scouts Canada insurance policy. It was great to get clarity on many of the new requirements set out in this policy.
MedVents from across Canada are helping out at the Pacific Jamboree 2011, taking place on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.
When nearly 8000 people descended on the biggest Scout Jamboree in Canadian history, specially trained MedVent Scouts from Toronto and other EMS services in Ontario were on hand to provide Medical support.
This Jamboree marked 100 years of Scouting worldwide. Participants came from all over Canada as well as from the U.S.A., Kenya, Switzerland, the U.K., and Taiwan.
The medical team consisting of physicians, nurses and over 80 MedVent youth and advisors took care of around 1200 requests for medical service involving everything from heat related illnesses to fractures.
